Polka Dot Shirt

I'm really into polka dots lately. Today, I'm taking the dots to the office with this green sheer shirt with navy polka dots. I paired it with my navy pencil skirt, cascading pearl necklace, and black pumps. If you have a conservative work environment, then you may want to wear small dots. However, if your workplace welcomes wardrobe creativity, then by all means, go for a bigger dot pattern. It's simple details like this that I love to play with to spice up my work wardrobe.

Happy Monday, everyone! Here's to a great week ahead :)

Striped Dress & Riding Boots

The last time I posted, I announced that I was back after a long blogging break, Sadly, I wasn't back since I took another long break. So this time, I'll just say, "Hey there! Haven't seen you in a while!" Lol.

Texas hadn't quite experienced Fall until recently. I haven't worn this outfit as yet, but I'm dying to wear it, and I've had it coordinated for a while.

I've been on a hunt for good-fitting riding boots for a few years now, and I finally found them. I bought this cognac pair recently, and now I'm on a hunt for a black pair.

I've mentioned before that I have a thing for striped dresses, but what was so cute about this one was the yellow on the top. The best thing about this dress is that it can be worn throughout many seasons (spring, summer, fall, maybe even winter with some tights). I do have some striped sweater dresses for winter, so maybe you can check back in a few weeks when it gets colder and see if I pull one of them out.

Until we meet again, have a great Friday!

I'm Back!

Helloooooo....is there anyone out there?!? If so, I'm back! I've been gone for almost four months, but I'm so ready to get back to sharing and talking fashion with you. Let's just say "life" took over. When you last heard from me, I was in the middle of finals. Right after that (and I do mean right away...like three days after), I started a three-week Maymester course. Right after that (and again I mean right after...like the same day as my final), my parents came for a one month visit. During that time, my sisters and niece also came for a few days to surprise my mom for her 60th birthday. We had a blast. Right after that (like two days after), my next summer class started. After that, I finally got a three week break from school. I could have returned to the blog at that time, but I was enjoying having nothing to do for the first time for the year, and things had quieted down at work, so I was somewhat stress-free...."somewhat." The Fall semester has now started, so we'll see how that goes. Now let's talk some fashion.

I wore this outfit a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon when I went to a friend's place for dinner. I sort of invited myself when I heard they were cooking up a big Sunday meal, but that's ok, we're good like that! It was a hot day, so I needed something cool and comfortable. Tanks are my go-to summer tops, so it was an easy outfit to put together. These sandals have been my favorite for the past two years, and I'm hoping they'll last for another summer because they're beginning to show some wear, and I'm not ready to toss them out.

So tell me, what are your favorite summer items?

Red Cropped Pants

Is it Friday yet???

I love these red cropped pants. They're so bright, and I love it like that. They're also very comfortable. They were tucked away in my closet for some time now, so I decided to pull them out and give them a go. I toned down the brightness a bit with a black shirt, belt, and shoes, and added this cascading pearl necklace. The sleeve length of the shirt was a bit long, so I turned up the cuffs, although I think I may have turned them up too much. But who's looking, right? The next time I wear these pants, I think I may go for a splash of color, because I started to feel "blah" in all this black. I'm not sure what color as yet, but suggestions are welcomed.

Anyway, is it Friday yet?!?!

The Greatness of a Tank

What's greater than an item that can be used for work and going out? An item that can be used in different seasons. That's the case with today's ruffled tank. I showcased this number earlier in the year when I spoke about making your wardrobe serve dual roles, here. That was in winter, and now that it is warmer, I'm wearing the tank sans the cardigan. Tanks are great choices for this purpose. They are excellent for layering and can also be worn by itself and still look effortlessly chic. I'm a sucker for a tank and skinny jeans, a tank and a skirt, and a tank and shorts. I guess I'm just a sucker for tanks in general!

Styling tip: Notice the belt? Something about the waist of the skirt didn't seem right when I tucked in the tank. The waist band seamed a bit too broad. A quick fix was to add a belt to break up the outfit and to add some visual interest. You might have remembered me doing something like this here. Back then, it was because there wasn't a defined skirt waist. This time, it was because there was too much of a defined skirt waist....at least in my opinion.

TGIF! Have a great weekend, everyone!

Skinny Flare

Earlier in the year, I spoke about the complicated names for pants these days, here. Well, apparently, the pair that I'm wearing today is "skinny flare." What makes it a skinny flare...I would really like to know! How exactly can it be skinny and still a flare??? Is it supposed to fit skinny at the hips and legs for a smaller silhouette? If so, what design technique allows them to achieve this? If anyone has any insight on this, do share.

One-Year Bloggerversary!

In all the craziness of that thing called life, it completely slipped me that yesterday was my blog's one-year bloggerversary! Yep, that's right people. It's already been one year since I embarked on this journey and joined the blogosphere, and let me tell you, it has been an enjoyable ride.

Back in November 2010, I stumbled across a fashion blog that I was literally obsessed with. That blog led me to other blogs which led me to other blogs, and before you know it, I was a regular blog reader. It was a whole new world for me and an exciting one at that. My sister has her own online retail store back in Antigua. I often work with her to find great outfits for the business, and you can imagine the joy I get in doing it. Sometimes, I get a bit more enthusiastic than she does when we find a super cute item, and I automatically start thinking of ways her clients should wear the item lol. With my newfound addiction to fashion blogs added to assisting her with the buying, I NEEDED to do something else fashion-related to take care of the intense craving. At first I thought of adding a mini blog for my sister's site, then I thought what the heck, why not just start my own blog?!?! And so, Fashionable You was born.

I love doing this. First and foremost, I do it for me. This has become such an enjoyable hobby to help me relax on stressful days, that I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. Secondly, I do this for women out there that are experiencing fashion dilemmas. I'm no fashion expert, but if I can help at least one person, then I'm happy with that. I'm so thankful for all my readers. Even if it is only one person reading the blog, I'm still grateful that someone took the time out to read what I sometimes think is just me rambling on and on.

Of course I had to throw in an outfit to mark this occasion! I don't know why, but lately I've been incorporating a lot of blues into my outfits. What I like mostly about today's look is that it can also be dressed down with some sandals or flats and minimal jewelry for a more casual feel.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Mine will be spent in the library preparing for my upcoming exams. This is exactly what I meant by "that crazy thing called life." Haha!
