Skinny Flare

Earlier in the year, I spoke about the complicated names for pants these days, here. Well, apparently, the pair that I'm wearing today is "skinny flare." What makes it a skinny flare...I would really like to know! How exactly can it be skinny and still a flare??? Is it supposed to fit skinny at the hips and legs for a smaller silhouette? If so, what design technique allows them to achieve this? If anyone has any insight on this, do share.

One-Year Bloggerversary!

In all the craziness of that thing called life, it completely slipped me that yesterday was my blog's one-year bloggerversary! Yep, that's right people. It's already been one year since I embarked on this journey and joined the blogosphere, and let me tell you, it has been an enjoyable ride.

Back in November 2010, I stumbled across a fashion blog that I was literally obsessed with. That blog led me to other blogs which led me to other blogs, and before you know it, I was a regular blog reader. It was a whole new world for me and an exciting one at that. My sister has her own online retail store back in Antigua. I often work with her to find great outfits for the business, and you can imagine the joy I get in doing it. Sometimes, I get a bit more enthusiastic than she does when we find a super cute item, and I automatically start thinking of ways her clients should wear the item lol. With my newfound addiction to fashion blogs added to assisting her with the buying, I NEEDED to do something else fashion-related to take care of the intense craving. At first I thought of adding a mini blog for my sister's site, then I thought what the heck, why not just start my own blog?!?! And so, Fashionable You was born.

I love doing this. First and foremost, I do it for me. This has become such an enjoyable hobby to help me relax on stressful days, that I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. Secondly, I do this for women out there that are experiencing fashion dilemmas. I'm no fashion expert, but if I can help at least one person, then I'm happy with that. I'm so thankful for all my readers. Even if it is only one person reading the blog, I'm still grateful that someone took the time out to read what I sometimes think is just me rambling on and on.

Of course I had to throw in an outfit to mark this occasion! I don't know why, but lately I've been incorporating a lot of blues into my outfits. What I like mostly about today's look is that it can also be dressed down with some sandals or flats and minimal jewelry for a more casual feel.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Mine will be spent in the library preparing for my upcoming exams. This is exactly what I meant by "that crazy thing called life." Haha!

Style Inspiration: Toot Toot!

I'm not one to toot my own horn, but I love this outfit! I was excited when I first saw this inspiration photo via Pinterest and was practically grinning from ear to ear when I realized that I had similar pieces...down to the necklace. I've worn these cobalt blue pants more times than I've shown here on the blog (actually, I don't think I've ever shown them on the blog!), and it has become a wardrobe staple for me. It is such a versatile piece in my closet. I think I've worn it once per week for three weeks in a row, and I have no shame in claiming that! Haha!

What about you guys? Do you have pieces that you find you wear almost every week?

Style Inspiration: Orange & Turquoise

I love color, and I love playing with color combinations. If you don't know this by now, well, now you know! I came across this necklace, and I loved the orange and turquoise together (would you call this turquoise???). Then, I came across this picture of the First Lady, Michelle Obama, with the same color combo, and I was sold. I had to recreate these colors. Here's my attempt :)

Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Cobalt Blue Jacket...AGAIN!

It's Easter Monday, and if I were home in Antigua, I would probably be enjoying a picnic at the beach or an Easter Fair. But I'm not, and Easter Monday is not a public holiday here as it is back home, so on this fine Monday, I'm focused on work, my evening class, and getting home at 10:00pm from a long day with no time or energy to do anything else but just to go straight to bed. Not fair! Oh well, at least I'm having fun with today's outfit :)

I'm really really enjoying my cobalt blue jacket. So much so that I wore it again today after purchasing it recently. This time, I paired it with my favorite work skirt that I've had for two or three years now...I've lost track of how long I've had it, but it's still my favorite...hands down! I have so many more ideas in store for this jacket, so stay tuned.

Green Skinnies and Stripes

I did an outfit creation sometime ago with bright skinny jeans and striped tops, and today, I decided to put one of those looks into action. I'm loving these green skinnies, and I wore them for the first time today. There's something about striped tops that I really like, and the crochet details in the back make me like this one more and more each time I wear it.

Count Your Blessings

Yesterday was crazy! Dallas was hit with several tornadoes shortly after lunch yesterday destroying homes, tearing down power lines, tossing trailers around in the air, and damaging cars from the baseball and golf ball sized hail. Fortunately, I was not in the areas affected by the tornadoes and hail. This happened while at work, and the tornado sirens were blaring as the storm passed through, so we all had to take the mandatory precautionary steps and seek shelter in the center of the building, just in case. There were no reported deaths or serious injuries from the tornadoes. Thank goodness! This is one thing I really don’t like about Texas, other than the heat. Now on to today's outfit...

I must admit, when I bought this shirt about two years ago, I only envisioned wearing it with a darker bottom like grey (I'm not really into black pants & skirts...weird, I know). But behold! I decided to try it out with one of my favorite skirts, and voila! I'm surprised I didn't think of this sooner, as I'm always trying different color combinations to add more spice to my wardrobe.

Styling tip: I've noticed that some skirts aren't made with a defined waist band these days. A quick and easy way to achieve this is to add a belt over your skirt. Not only does it help to define your waist, but it adds more visual interest to the outfit by breaking it up into distinct pieces.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday. The weekend is almost here!

Cobalt Blue Jacket

I recently bought the cutest cobalt blue jacket, and I'm in love with it. Today, I paired it with a pink ruffle shirt, white cropped pants, and my leopard pumps. I did a similar color combo here, but I didn't even realize the similarity until afterwards. I can see this jacket serving dual roles for work and for nights out on the town, so I'd say it was a worthwhile purchase.
